My Sister’s Brotherly Keeper is an annual youth empowerment experience created by men as a meaningful expression of appreciation, respect, and advocacy for the journey of womanhood. The program provides high school young women from Pontiac and Detroit with an opportunity to step outside of their everyday environments and experience a full day of inspiration, education, connection, and personal development on a college campus.
Previously hosted at Wayne State University and Oakland University, the program immerses participants in a dynamic series of assemblies, workshops, breakout sessions, and interactive experiences designed specifically for young women.
The day begins with a powerful opening assembly featuring accomplished and influential women who take center stage in roles ranging from Master of Ceremonies to keynote speakers, facilitators, presenters, and workshop leaders. Throughout the day, participants are exposed to women who represent diverse professions, experiences, backgrounds, and paths to success.
The program is designed to help young women recognize their value, broaden their vision for their future, develop confidence, and understand the importance of education, leadership, relationships, and self-worth. It also creates meaningful opportunities for participants to interact with women who can serve as mentors, role models, and sources of encouragement.
Following the disruption caused by COVID-19, Ascend Foundation is committed to revitalizing My Sister’s Brotherly Keeper as an annual signature experience. The continued partnership and support of Oakland University and Wayne State University represents an important step forward in expanding the program's reach and creating a memorable collegiate experience for young women.
My Sister’s Brotherly Keeper is more than a one-day event. It is a collective declaration from men and women that our young women deserve to be celebrated, supported, protected, encouraged, and equipped for greatness.
