Operation PREVENT is an innovative youth intervention and prevention program that brings together a diverse panel of credible messengers, particularly men who have personally experienced significant trials, justice-system involvement, or other life-altering challenges, and transformed those experiences into purpose, leadership, and positive impact.

These men share their real stories, hard-earned wisdom, and lessons learned with young people who may be navigating difficult circumstances of their own. The program was created with a particular focus on youth who are often labeled as “troubled,” “difficult,” or “at risk,” and who may be in danger of being overlooked or written off.

The first Operation PREVENT forum was held at Pontiac High School, engaging approximately 120 youth, including students identified as some of the school’s most challenging cases. Rather than viewing these young people as lost causes, Operation PREVENT sends a powerful message: We cannot afford to lose them.

Through honest conversation, mentorship, accountability, and authentic storytelling, panelists demonstrate that difficult circumstances do not have to determine a young person’s future. Their experiences provide youth with an opportunity to see both the consequences of choices and, equally important, the possibility of redirection, resilience, redemption, and success.

Operation PREVENT has primarily served youth in Pontiac, Flint, and Detroit, while expanding into more diverse communities and cultural environments. The program is intentionally adaptable to the needs of each community and school.

Operation PREVENT is ongoing and can be brought to schools, youth organizations, and communities seeking an authentic, impactful approach to prevention, intervention, and positive youth development.
